I suspect that TalkTalk's method of restricting multiroom is only effective with their own boxes. 
"A friend of mine," really? What I have described is correct. If your "friend" has found a way to subvert this then I am sure both TalkTalk and Sky will be most interested in pursuing this, I am sure you can expect someone to be in touch.
